The mysterious "covfefe" of Trump
Too stressed? Inattentive? Keyboard ? US President Donald Trump regularly commits spelling or typing errors in his tweets, an illustration of the approximate communication of his White House.
"Despite the teen porn constantly negative press covfefe", he wrote shortly after midnight Wednesday, triggering a torrent of sarcasms on the internet and in the media. Shortly before six in the morning, after a restorative night, the tweet was erased and followed by another, ironically: "Who can find the true meaning of + covfefe + ??? Have fun!".
In the early morning, the exegetes suspected the leader of simply wanting to write "coverage", the English word to speak of the "cover" by the press.
The tweet recalls in any case the "We" (one word), left too quickly and erased on May 12, or the promising "RT @:" of December 25, an aborted retweet.
But Donald Trump, soon 71 years old, has not only problems of accidental writing. He is angry with spelling, often confusing one vowel with another, or adding an inappropriate consonant.
In the aftermath of his inauguration, he had to correct a first tweet to say that he was "honored" to be the president, having replaced an "o" with an "e". An error he had already made in February 2016.
And in March, it took three attempts before he found the spelling of "by the present" (hear by, hearby, hereby).
There was also a word half slip, half invention, which could be translated as "unprecedented" instead of "unprecedented" to describe China's robbery of an American naval drone.
The most expensive subjects to the regularly give rise to these errors. So from his tweet accusing his predecessor, Barack Obama, of having his phones tuned: he wrote "tapp" instead of "tap".
- Sad shells -
These mistakes seem to prove that Donald Trump himself puts some of his messages on his phone, although he dictates many to his assistants.
They are also not addicted to spell checkers, judging by the quality of the White House press releases. On the background and the form, errors are legion, especially geographical.
A list of bomb attacks compiled in February by the press service blatantly denounced the names of San Bernardino ("San Bernadino") and Denmark ("Denmakr").
The official calendars of the president and vice-president for January 27 had to be sent back twice to return to British Prime Minister Theresa May's "h" that she initially lacked.
As for Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, he was described as the "President of Australia" in a record.
And the complex European political structure was simplified last December by the transition team Trump, who had condensed the title of European Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini as "Vice-President of the European Union".
For many journalists and observers, these repeated are not trivial. They testify to the lack of experience of the power and diplomacy of the president and many of his relatives, and more generally of a lack of rigor and discipline in the management of presidential communication, whose director has just resigned.
But for humorists, these mistakes are endless pleasure. Except for Jimmy Kimmel, ABC star presenter, who wrote on Wednesday, with a heavy heart: "What makes me saddest is that I will never write anything funnier than #covfefe."
